Salton Sea

Wilson's Phalaropes are generally much more common than the Red-necked Phalaropes, and will occasionally spend the winter at Obsidian Butte at the Salton Sea.  Wilson's are usually seen in the early spring and summer before the Red-necked.  Look for Wilson's in April and July in shallow water ponds surrounding the Salton Sea, like those at Obsidian Butte and Red Hill Marina, and in sewage lagoons, like the ones s. of Yuma Proving Grounds.
