Day Two

Four days of target birding from below sea level and over the peaks then down the coast!

Sunrise of the second day found us in the desert of Borrego Springs where we found three Le Conte's Thrashers, plenty of Sage Sparrows and an unexpected but great look at a Sage Thrasher!

Headed for the next one!

We climbed out of the desert on Montezuma Grade that offered a fantastic view of where we had been. We drove into the fog then settled out underneath of the clouds for the rest of the day.  Nuttall's Woodpecker, Red-naped and Red-breasted Sapsuckers all waited for us at the Santa Ysabel Mission after we picked up some bread at Dudley's Bakery!

Wild Turkey were alongside the roadway and a stop at Warner Springs added Tricolored Blackbirds to our list.
A long drive from there got us into Garner Valley where we had Pygmy Nuthatches and White-headed Woodpeckers but could not turn up the Pinyon Jays.

The sun ran out on us so we dropped off the mountain to spend the night in Hemet.
