Day 3 - Thursday

San Elijo Lagoon

Our bird list sky rocketed here and we had fine looks at lots of great birds including California Gnatcatcher and this Gadwall!

Our first stop of the day was the visitors center and boardwalk on the north side of San Elijo Lagoon in Cardiff-By-the-Sea.  The tide was racing out and the birds were racing.

San Elijo State Beach

Making our way around to the south side of San Elijo Lagoon we stopped on the beach for more good birds and to play in the surf.

Western Gull, Royal Terns & Sanderling

It is always fun to discover what the waves wash up on the beach.

It is also fun to discover what the well dressed Flamingo is wearing for the holidays!!  This lovely couple can often be seen in Solana Beach along Rios Ave. while heading in to the south side of San Elijo Lagoon.

There were also lots of flowers in bloom around San Elijo Lagoon!
La Jolla Cove gave us Pelagic Cormorant, Wandering Tattler, Black Turnstone and Black-vented Shearwaters. The Brown Pelicans were so close they would not fit in the scope.

Freckles

When we got to the San Diego River we saw that Freckles was doing well.  In fact he now has a Mrs. and a little one but those pics will come later!!

Last stop of the day was Quivira Basin where there were lots of birds and sea creatures around the bait dock.
